Located in the central area of the campus, the library is encircled by green belts, with fresh air and a quiet environment. Its building area exceeds 20,000 square meters.
As one of the key universities directly under Yunnan Province, Yunnan University of Finance and Economics (YUFE) is the only finance and economics institution of higher education in Yunnan Province. The library is an economic information center, which keeps the largest number of financial and economic documents in Yunnan Province. It is an academic institution for teaching and research activities as well as an important base for the informatization of the university and the whole society as well.
The library on southern campus was put into use in September 2005. It owns two multifunctional electronic reading rooms, seven sections for Chinese books, two sections for Chinese newspaper & periodicals, one section for foreign books, newspaper & periodical, one section for YUFE books and documents, and one reference room for South Asia and Southeast Asia books, with a total of 2,000 seats. It is an all-open and multifunctional sharing central platform for books and information resources with an integration of book collection, borrowing, reading, enquiry and network. It opens every day from 8:00 to 22:00. Its electronic resource database is available for readers round the clock.
Presently, the library keeps 3.4886 million books (including 1.5711 million electronic books). Moreover, it has subscribed to 1,650 Chinese periodicals, 152 kinds of newspaper, and 190 foreign periodicals. In addition, it owns 69 electronic databases of economics, management and so on.
The library has five departments and one office, i.e. Collecting & Editing Dept., IT Dept., Information Consulting Dept., Logistics Dept., Periodical Dept., and Office.
Now it has 54 employees, among which 10 received graduate education, 32 received undergraduate education, 9 received junior college education, 1 received senior high school education, and 2 received secondary specialized school educations. 77.78% of them received undergraduate education or education at a higher level. Meanwhile, 3 employees hold a senior professional title, 12 hold a sub-senior professional title, 28 hold a medium professional title, 7 hold a primary professional title, and 4 hold other professional titles.
In recent years, sticking to the tenet of “readers first and service foremost”, adhering to the concept of “centering on readers and providing quality service”, and following the motto of “cultivating and serving with good quality and high efficiency”, the library has been steadfastly carrying out the guideline of “establishing advanced management concepts, adopting modernized management means, and implementing humanized management modes and offering services of high quality to teaching and research” and making every effort to offer high-level and high-quality services to readers.
