Language is the most basic means of human communication. “Chinese Bridge”—Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students is try to through this platform enable overseas students to demonstrate their proficiency in Chinese and literary talent, and to communicate with each other.

The competition is a large-scale international event sponsored by Chinese National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language ( Hanban) with the purpose of stimulating foreign students’ enthusiasm and interest in learning Chinese and enhancing their understanding about Chinese language and culture. The slogan for the 10th international language competition is “Bridge of Friendship, Resonance of Passion”. The competition consists of three parts: Chinese speech, knowledge of Chinese language and culture and Chinese talent show. To be specific, students need to present a short prepared speech in Chinese accompanied by a cultural performance of their choice. While students are given free rein to perform anything they want, it needs to be relevant to Chinese culture, or at least their own perceptions of the culture.
